🎅🎄🎁⛄  XMAS 2022  ⛄🎁🎄🎅

Wishing all our fantastic customers, suppliers and blog readers a very Merry Christmas!

We hope you all enjoy the break and festivities, Happy New Year, see you on the other side!  🎅⛄🎁🎄🎅

NOVEMBER 2022

Another busy month has passed successfully, the team at Solid Electrical were happy to complete one of our largest projects to date. Continuing all the way through the summer, we worked with a developer to create 6 new affordable housings in South Croydon.

Plenty of reason there for fireworks, as if Guy Fawkes day and bonfire night wasn’t enough!

So now is the time to start preparing for the Christmas and New Year season.  Our thoughts turn to digging out the Christmas lights and decorations, please be careful not to overload sockets and extensions, this could cause issues with overheating. The majority of extension leads are rated at 13 amps, which is safe for Christmas lights, so long as you don’t add higher rated appliances too.

We have been working on an exciting new service this month too, just launched on our website:

Solid Electrical are pleased to present the Electrical Installation Appraisal Report.  This is a unique independent service for anyone with an interest in electrical safety, or concerns with a current installation, and not just for homeowners, it has been designed to assist tenants and commercial customers, lettings and estate agents also.  Full details  on our website now.

SEPTEMBER 2022

👑  A humbling month with Queen Elizabeth’s passing and funeral, quite literally the end of an era after a 70 year reign, the longest of any British monarch.

September also of course presented us with a new monarch, King Charles III, and Queen consort Camilla.

In addition, Britain gained a new Prime Minister in Liz Truss, with a large cabinet re-shuffle.  As if all that wasn’t enough, summer ended & the kids went back to school!

This means Autumn and Halloween are fast approaching, the leaves are falling, and the temperature is steadily dropping.

As we think about turning the heating on, with the darkening autumnal skies, now is the time to start preparing for winter.

We have been receiving enquiries typical of the season, and the cost of heating our homes is the biggest issue being addressed by many.

  • Take steps to getting your boiler / heating controls checked for maximum efficiency.
  • Think about loft insulation
  • Darker nights – You may want to consider security lighting/ additional outdoor power.

JULY 2022

What an eventful month July has been!  We’ve enjoyed a heatwave with record breaking temperatures, the Prime Minister has resigned prompting a leadership battle, and it came home: England’s lionesses became the champions after winning the Euro 2022 ⚽⚽

Solid Electrical has also enjoyed a successful month, after our nomination in the South Thames Colleges Group recent Employer Awards Ceremony, we are thrilled to have won the award for the Innovation & Special Projects category!! 🏆  As recognition of our work with apprentices, and successfully starting our apprentice scheme.

We are often asked for assistance with USB related enquiries, for garden or home offices as an example.  We posted a helpful guide on our Facebook page earlier this year in May, why not take a look for inspiration?! Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have an enquiry.

MAY 2022

Solid Electrical has had an industrious start to May, with advertising in local community magazines, and a large amount of repeat custom from our loyal clients.

This has led to some fantastic reviews on Trustpilot, for which we are very grateful. If you require electrical services, why not glance over our Solid reviews here:

Solar PV has produced a flurry of activity for Solid Electrical recently, due partly to the rising costs of energy, and our Microgeneration Certificate (MCS) with the regulatory body the NICEIC.

Considering having a system installed at your home or work place? Why not contact us for more information.

Continuing on from last month, the Solid Electrical Apprentice Scheme has proved somewhat of a hit with electricians. It has not only introduced new energy to the trade, it has also allowed two apprentices a vital step forward in their chosen career, whilst being shown the ropes by seasoned electricians.

MARCH 2022

First Day of Spring!

March is always a busy time for Solid Electrical, and this was no exception.  Lots of our clients use the start of spring and the clocks going forward, to organise outside electric works in preparation for easter and of course the coming summer months.

We have also played our part with house renovations and extensions, large and small.  Often work is put off over the winter months and planned for the onset of better weather, so the Solid Electrical team has seen a rise in the number of quotations too.

Also proving popular currently is Smart home technology, lighting, automation and security.  With the wealth of experience our team has with these installations, why not contact us to discuss your ideas and plans? Let Solid put a Spring in your step!

JANUARY 2022

Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to 2022.  It is certainly a warm start to the year with record temperatures across the UK and Europe.

Solid Electrical has hit the ground running already, with many interesting jobs thanks to our loyal customers.  We have worked on solutions for Ring doorbells, repairing heating and ventilation systems, installation of external lighting, and electric vehicle charging points to name but a few.

Our charity support continues this year, we have supported the Fox Project, Cancer Research UK, alongside our ongoing sponsorship of six animals at Foal Farm.

OCTOBER 2022

😇  The first of Solid Electrical’s series of Help Guides, “Working from home” is now available to read on our website.  We’ve been working hard to produce these guides in the hope our knowledge might help you, or even give you ideas.

Please click this link to take a look.

We have helped many customers create all kinds of home offices, but also averted a few potential issues. The guide covers some of the basics, and moves on with how to not overload a circuit, and advice for extension leads.

Please stay tuned for the next help guide, we’ll be shedding light on consumer units, or fuse boards for those of you that haven’t as yet upgraded!

So there you go, more interesting than October’s mini budget and rising interest rates, or talking about Christmas lighting preparations!  It’s still only October after all!

🎃🎃Happy Halloween from all of us here at Solid Electrical 🎃🎃

AUGUST 2022

☀️  Well, that was another scorcher of a month!  England finished the Commonwealth Games 2022 in second place behind Australia, with 176 medals, 97 of them Gold!  🥇

The UK then enjoyed a second heatwave for almost a week, and of course the always welcome August Bank Holiday ☀️

We have had many interesting jobs to attend this year, but the following left us rat-tled:  🐀  Solid Electrical were asked to attend a property where the lights were tripping out.  Various tests led to multiple faults and many lights and switches being disconnected.

Then further investigation in the loft space revealed the cause of the problems.  Much of the cabling had been chewed in numerous places by rats, with plenty of evidence left behind. With pest control, and some rewiring, we’re happy to report the issue has not re-occurred!

If you hear a rustling noise, or have not had your wiring checked recently, don’t get caught, avoid the costly repair, contact Solid Electrical without delay!   🐀 ⚡

JUNE 2022

👑  Jubilee June  👑

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the extra bank holiday days, it’s been an excellent start to British summer time already.

🏆  Stop the press!  Solid Electrical were nominated in the South Thames Colleges Group, recent Employer Award Ceremony.  We are very grateful to be nominated in the Innovation & Special Projects category, as recognition of our work with apprentices, and successfully starting our apprentice scheme.  🏆

Solid has experienced a heightened demand for external & garden power, we’ve certainly been kept busy!   We encourage everyone to be aware of electrical dangers before attempting DIY garden projects.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe while gardening:

  • Be cautious with cables, especially when using a lawn mower or strimmer, and protect your eyes, you never know what’s lurking in the long grass!
  • Always use an RCD - Residual Current Device with electric mowers. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to have this added.
  • Remember to dig carefully, there could be cables instead of gold!

APRIL 2022

Happy Easter from Solid Electrical!  🐣

Everyone loves April, the daffodils are out in bloom, summer is around the corner, and the Easter bank holiday weekend is upon us!

And here at Solid Electrical we have had lots of exciting projects starting this month.

The first being a new build design and build, ready for all new wiring, consisting of six new luxury apartments.

Thrilling news for us, we are pleased to announce that Solid Electrical has started an apprenticeship for not one, but two new apprentices. Always wanting to stay ahead in the industry, this will give the two college students an opportunity to step into the career of their choice with a Solid helping hand, and at the same time introduce new energy to the trade and allow Solid Electrical to move the company forwards.

FEBRUARY 2022

Fantastic start to 2022!

Solid Electrical enjoyed a record breaking month for January which was our busiest yet, proving a fantastic start to the new year!  A great many thanks to all our loyal customers that have made this possible.

We are also very happy to announce securing a considerable job for a new build flats project in South Croydon, which is soon to go ahead.

Also keeping us busy has been carrying out the first batch of fire alarm inspections of the year, ensuring compliance for our customers.

Always continual work for us is the preparation of Electrical Installation Condition Reports for rental accomodation and owner occupied.  Did you know the recommended maximum period between inspections is five years for rental, and ten years for owner occupied?

An EICR is carried out as a precaution and can identify possible faults that could lead to fire or electric shock, and even identify a potential failure of an installation before the event occurs. Well worth considering we think.  A small fee - for huge peace of mind.
